The general formula for MXene is M n+1 X n T x (n = 1–3) where M stands for early transition metal such as Ti, Nb, Zr, V, Hf, Sc, Mo, Cr, etc., X is the carbon and/or nitrogen while T x is the surface functional groups such as oxygen, hydroxyl, chlorine and/or fluorine bonded to the outer layers of M (Sheth et al., 2022; Thirumal et al., 2022) as shown in Fig. 1.
